- Family tent
o Pack it in a sturdy duffel bag.
o Bring metal tent stakes – plastic pegs don’t work well in this soil.
o Check this bag as one piece of your luggage. - Photo identification (for airport check-in and border crossing).
- Passport or original copy of birth certificate.
- Sleeping bag, bedding, air mattress, air pump (optional).
- Camp lantern, two flashlights.
- Comfortable work clothes (long pants, t-shirts – no shorts or sleeveless shirts allowed on worksites).
- Sturdy work shoes or boots.
- Hat, visor, and/or bandanas.
- Clothes for camp (jeans, cropped pants, shorts, t-shirts, sleeveless shirts – all ok for campsite.
- Jacket and/or sweatshirt – morning and evening weather is cold.
- Shower items: Solar shower (optional), towels, washcloths, swimsuit or trunks (mandatory for showers), toiletries, sandals/shoes to wear in the shower.
- Miscellaneous items: Sun block, Chapstick with sunscreen, wet wipes, face wipes, baby powder with cornstarch, sunglasses (2 pairs), water bottles (2 per person), Kleenex, camera (if disposable, write your name on it).
- First aid items such as Tylenol, Neosporin, Band Aids, Antacid, Feminine hygiene products, insect repellant.
- Tools: Tool belt and/or nail pouch, hammer, wire cutters, sturdy gloves (leather are best), hand square, hand saw, 25’ tape measure. Pack tools in a small duffle bag and check them with your luggage. Do not attempt to bring them on the plane as a carry-on bag. See Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Prohibited Items.
- Rice & beans (one pound bags) – to be given to Mexican families.
- Money – one dollar bills are sometimes useful.
Note: to help us identify with the culture, we request you do not wear make-up or jewelry (except for wedding bands) while in Mexico.
